by Ava Mutchler
March 17 2016, WASHINGTON – Kit Check™ (http://kitcheck.com), the leader in hospital pharmacy kit restocking automation and medication tracking software, today announced that 10 million medications have been tracked by hospital pharmacies using the company’s cloud software and IoT-based solution. A vial of Glycopyrrolate at the University of Vermont Medical Center with a strength of 1MG/5ML became the ten millionth RFID-tagged medication tracked by Kit Check on February 22, 2016.

“Kit Check users have proven that internet of things (IoT) technologies can drive measurable value in healthcare and handle tremendous operating scale when managed by a multi-tenant cloud infrastructure. While peer-reviewed pharmacy journal articles and ASHP presentations have extolled the benefits of Kit Check, the rapid adoption rate among hospitals provides the most compelling evidence of value delivered. It took 667 days for Kit Check users to track the first million medications, 162 days to track the second million and only 43 days to go from nine to ten million medications in over 200 hospitals. Tracking medications with Kit Check and automating restocking processes for kits, trays and OR medications has quickly become a standard practice in hospital pharmacy operations. We are proud to have made such a big difference for pharmacy users,” said Kit Check Co-founder and CEO Kevin MacDonald.
Matt Williams from the The University of Vermont Medical Center Pharmacy Services commented, “Integrating Kit Check into our daily workflow has made restocking pharmacy trays a far more streamlined process. The user interface is very straightforward and easy to learn. I like using Kit Check because it’s quick and accurate. The Kit Check team has also been very responsive to our hospital’s specific needs which has helped immensely. Thank you Kit Check!”
There have been nine different hospitals responsible for the million medication milestones since 2014. The only repeat hospital happened to be the University of Vermont which marked both the five and ten millionth medications tracked. But that wasn’t the only rare coincidence. The same drug type and same person were a complete match for both milestones. The only difference was the strength. We calculate that the likelihood of all of these factors showing up at both the five and ten million milestones is 0.00032%. The likelihood that both were University of Vermont Medical Center was more probable but still only 0.33%.
